Sarah Carr’s summer skincare tips

Whether you’re planning a staycation or heading abroad this summer, here are some of my favourite hints and tips to help you achieve your best summertime skin.

Generally, skin can become a little oiler in the summer months, so our aim is to balance without stripping it. Using the lighter, warmer days to get outside and move more, while enjoying all the seasonal fresh fruit and veg on offer, can really help keep skin hydrated and glowing from the inside out.

Get outside and move! Enjoy the lighter mornings and evenings with activity – a little vitamin D and exercise can really set you up for the day.

Refresh your water with cucumber and lemon to keep it interesting – aim for the classic 2 litres per day. Keep a glass jug in the fridge at home and alternate your flavours. Hydrate M8s water bottles are good reminders to help keep you hydrated at your desk.

Eat well
Summer is salad and soft fruit season so enjoy eating locally picked British produce. I absolutely love berry season and a Pick Your Own farm – not only do you end up with the freshest berries straight from the bush, it’s a fun, family-friendly activity that gets everyone outside. Try freezing your berries too for use into the autumn, they’re just as nutritious as fresh.

Upgrade your daily routine
Focus on thorough cleansing to remove SPF and excess sebum and aim to exfoliate 2-3 times a week to buff away dead skin cells and impurities. To target oiler areas try our Deep Cleansing Mask. Multi masking is key for the summer months, especially for combination and oily skin types. If you need inspiration consult our handy guide, here.

Refresh yourself
Always keep an Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic spritzer in your bag to keep skin hydrated and cool, it’s especially refreshing in hot weather. At home, keep your Instant Boost™ spritzer somewhere cool ready to refresh skin when you walk through the door, be it from a long, hot commute or a day at the beach.

Sleep well
If you haven’t invested in a silk eye mask, heavy curtains or a black out blinds then now is the time! The lighter mornings and longer evenings can make it especially tricky to get the beauty sleep you need. It pays to invest in cool cotton bedding too and absolutely no Instagram scrolling before bedtime – it will only keep you awake!
