Sarah Carr’s delicious skin smoothie

Spring and summer are ideal times to benefit from skin glowing foods that are quick, easy and local. For me, a busy new mum, smoothies are perfect. They help me avoid processed foods and I use the lighter mornings and evenings to help with prep, the part that usually takes the most time.

Best of all, with a homemade smoothie you decide what goes in, so if you’re not keen on a particular fruit or veg, throw in something else. The key is having all the ingredients at the ready so it makes it easier and less of a mission.

Below, you’ll find my go-to recipe for a glow-boosting smoothie. Use it as your base, but feel free to add whatever you fancy to make it your own. I use a NutriBullet but you can use any type of blender.

Sarah’s skin glow smoothie

Ingredients:

Handful of washed spinach

½ ripe avocado

1 tablespoon of water-soaked oats

½ teaspoon ground flaxseed

¼ of a normal sized cucumber

Milk/coconut water − just enough to cover the ingredients


NB. Add more to make it a drink and less to make it thicker and more of a smoothie bowl texture.


Smoothie wisdom

Try adding celery, lime, ginger, dates or honey to taste.

Add granola and fresh fruit to enjoy a smoothie bowl.

Leftovers? Try freezing your surplus smoothie into lolly moulds to enjoy later.
