Although it’s easy to fall down a social media rabbit hole, in times like these, Instagram can be a one-way ticket to global exploration, letting you get out of the four walls of your home to see some of the most stunning vistas on earth or get up close and personal with animals you may never be able to encounter in real life.

Animals

Animals

When you're feeling stressed, sometimes all you need is one look at a photo of an adorable bundle of fur (feathers and scales also accepted). Some psychologists have suggested that looking at pictures of baby animals can have a positive effect on our concentration. Start with @thedodo - it brings together the best animal content from all over Instagram on one page, so you can see everything from elephants listening to piano to otters learning to swim for the first time. Looking for a regular does of four-legged friends? @mylittlepeepers is the page for The Peeps Foundation, a sanctuary home for mini horses - be prepared for your heart to melt at the sight of these little beauties.

Caroline Archer

Caroline's favourites

  • @pennywincer — Penny is an amazing photographer, author and a huge inspiration to me as a mother of a child with special needs. She shares her life openly and beautifully with good humour, resilience and compassion.
  • @doesmybumlook40 — Kat is actually a friend of mine (our children were in the same class at school). She still has a down-to-earth, tell-it-as-it-is attitude to life, particularly her brilliantly crazy, irreverent stories. A great place to tune in for a dose of tongue-in-cheek humour and some frock inspo!
  • @studio54laura — I'm a huge fan of vintage Hollywood movies and Laura's brilliant account features classic movies, famous scenes and stunning snaps of iconic actors. Love browsing here to plan my next movie night!

Interiors

Interiors

If you're tired of looking at the same rooms every day and want to see some refreshing spaces to inspire your very own version of Grand Designs, you're in luck - incredible interiors are everywhere you turn on Instagram. Ever heard the word 'jungalow'? It's a term invented by @justinablakeney mashing up 'jungle' and 'bungalow' and when you see her feed bursting with colour and plant life, you'll start to grasp why. Her interiors are always bright and effervescent with a boho edge and most importantly feel welcoming and lived in. Looking for something a bit dramatic? @sashabikoff has you covered, with dynamic interiors that appear lifted straight from a film set, rich in rainbow bursts of colour from the sleekest silvers to luscious lime hues.

Food

Food

We thought we'd help you discover your next stroke of culinary genius - because who can resist good food? Turn to @jakecohen for photos of meals so delectably tantalising you can practically taste them through the screen. All are also accompanied by puns that should be awful but somehow manage to put a smile on your face! Got a sweet tooth? You can't go wrong with the exquisite creations of @emcdowell. A savoury treat may slip into her feed sometimes, but this account is mostly dedicated to the pursuit of heavenly dessert. The icing on the cake? She always lets you know where to find the recipes she used.

James Wong

James' favourites

  • @abee_arles — This guy's account documents the wild mountainous beauty of his native Java so breathtakingly - I have never wanted to visit anywhere more. His images are a thing of wonder.
  • @botaworks — One of the things that fascinates me about the Japanese approach to garden design is the practice of finding beauty in everyday things - even weeds! This account is dedicated to just that.
  • @woha_architects — Singapore-based architects, WOHA, are revolutionising how we think of cities, with their amazing jungle-clothed buildings that blur the boundaries between inside and out.

Travel

Travel

With a wealth of travel accounts to dive into, there's no shortage of free trips to take from the comfort of your sofa. @danielkordan captures epic landscapes vibrant with colour, on a scale that makes you feel as though you've been transported to a fantasy world - it's difficult to comprehend that some of these have been taken on Earth! If you're a foodie, we recommend @girleatworld. Much as the name would suggest, she takes you on a world tour via the local delicacies she tries in each new place (usually sweet treats guaranteed to make your mouth water). The sky's the limit!

Sarah Carr

Sarah's favourites

  • @belindabaggs — Belinda is a climate change activist, a lover of the deep blue sea and one awesome lady! Whenever I'm missing the water, I live for her ocean escapes and environmental passions.
  • @mattzhalg — You might know him as the author of books such as Reasons to Stay Alive but Matt's Instagram presence is pretty great too. I like his perspective on things, with his focus on caring for our mental health as well as trying to put a smile on people's faces.
  • @iamlaurajackson — Laura's account focuses on food, interiors and all-round positivity! At the moment she's encouraging us all to #MakeAMealOfIt and host virtual dinners with friends and loved ones - we are all trying to do this on a regular basis and it does pick you up after a long day at home!
