7 ways to take the stress out of holiday packing

We’ve all been there. The night before your long-awaited, well-earned holiday, you’re panicking because you’ve just put your last pair of socks in the wash and your Cleanse & Polish™ has run out. The excitement you should be feeling is eclipsed by stress as you dash around looking for everything. But there is a better way! We’ve put together our best packing tips, to guarantee you arrive at the airport calm, excited and already in holiday mode.

1. Start early

A month before you go, try on your swimsuit, check your suitcase wheels still work, make sure you know where your passport is, and take stock of all your travel size beauty products to see if any need replacing. Be sure to check on your full-size essentials too, if you’re flying long-haul. Take a look at our travel beauty must haves here, to make sure you aren’t missing anything.

2. List it

Make your packing list at least a week in advance to avoid any last-minute panic – this gives you plenty of time to wash anything that might have been forgotten at the bottom of your laundry basket.

3. Stick to one style when choosing clothes

This means that if you spill a holiday treat on one top, you can simply pop on a fresh one without looking mismatched for the rest of the day, and if the weather turns cold, you know your cover up is going to work with whatever you’re wearing.

4. Pack a drawstring bag for laundry

Hang it on the back of a hotel room chair or door handle and get into the habit of putting any dirty clothes straight into it. When the holiday is over, it goes straight into your suitcase – no more frantically gathering up socks and underwear five minutes before you’re supposed to leave!

5. Optimise your carry-on

Pack your carry-on and checked baggage at the same time, to help you see where the heaviest items are ending up. You’ll then be able to spread them across both, saving valuable weight in your checked bag.

6. Leave space for souvenirs

You know you’re going to want to bring home more than just memories and photos! How much space you need depends on where you’re going (and how many people back home are expecting gifts) but make sure you leave at least a little bit.

7. Pack yourself some in-flight essentials

A thrilling summer novel, a bar of your favourite chocolate, and of course, a lovely skincare routine to help you relax, unwind and prepare for your holiday. Check out our in-flight-beauty edit by Sarah Carr, for more inspiration on ways to get some serious you-time on the plane.
