How do you know which is the best face mask for your skin? It’s always tricky getting the treatment balance exactly right, especially during summer when sun exposure, heat, air conditioning and more completely throws off your skin’s equilibrium. Luckily for us, instead of franticly combing Google for the answers, we can simply turn to the experts.

Sarah’s summer balance

The What

I like to think of my skincare routine as a wardrobe (bear with me, it’s about to make sense!). What we wear each day depends on the occasion, the mood or, most importantly, the season – after all, you wouldn’t wear your favourite woollies in the midst of summer, would you? How you adapt your skincare routine is no different – which is why I love using Balancing Gel Mask during the summer months.

The Why

Balancing Gel Mask was my skin saviour last summer, when I spent ten long weeks (over the entire heatwave no less) in hospital with my then new-born baby, Wilf. A combination of very little sleep, stress and air conditioning wreaked havoc on my skin, so this mask is now my forever go-to for keeping my skin feeling calm, hydrated and balanced, not to mention one of my favourite rituals to destress – even if its just for 5 minutes.

The How

I fit this gel mask into my routine twice per week in the morning after my shower, always exfoliating first with Gentle Face Exfoliator. This helps the gel mask ingredients work even harder for you, maximising your post-mask glow and helping your make up sit better afterwards. The gel feels instantly cooling and calming which is a dream for 5 minutes on a warm morning (or evening).

Caroline’s deep cleansing secret

The What

During the summer months, as we perspire more and wear SPF frequently, I find my skin needs a ‘deeper’ clean than what’s provided by my usual routine. That’s why during July and August I religiously slot Deep Cleansing Clay Mask back into the routine (about twice weekly is right for me).

The Why

Many clay masks can leave skin feeling tight and stripped, but Deep Cleansing Clay Mask also soothes and comforts while it cleanses (hello, calming manuka honey) leaving fresh, clean-feeling, comfortable skin that glows. It also great for helping prevent breakouts and is great for those with oilier skin, year-round.

The How

After smoothing it on to cleansed skin, usually before my morning shower or evening bath, I leave it on for just 5 minutes before gently removing it using the accompanying sponges. It leaves my skin looking clear and feeling revitalised, as those deeper-down impurities are lifted out by the gentle clay mask. It also has a herby, medicinal scent which I love.
