AW16 Trend Watch with Sarah Carr

From London to Paris, New York to Milan, I love nothing more than seeing all the new, cool and quirky beauty trends for the season ahead. The AW16 runways did not disappoint and were awash with a cornucopia of colour and design, providing a whole host of beauty inspiration for September onwards.

If you missed any of the trends, then don’t worry! I’ve cherry picked the catwalk’s most captivating looks that you can recreate with ease, whether you’re a beauty beginner or make up maestro. Here are my favourite top four looks to rock from September through to the New Year.

Bare-faced Beauty

From Michael Kors to Missoni, various designers sent models down the catwalk with fresh-faced complexions as a rebellion against the highlighting and contouring trend that has found fame on social media. I love that this season’s face is completely pared back because it’s a look that is so easy to achieve if you’re time-poor.

The key to getting it right is radiance, radiance, radiance! After prepping skin with your daily cleanse, tone and moisturise routine, pat Healthy Glow Cream Blush onto the apples of your cheeks – it lends itself perfectly to this look as the creamy formula glides on smoothly, while the micronised pigments allow you to build depth of colour. Finish with a sweep of highlighter across the top of your cheekbones, and you’re good to go!

Hair Embellishment

Beauty isn’t just about the make up, but hair too! Some of my favourite runway styles were stunning in their detail. Designers such as Versace, Chanel and McQueen all used a mixture of pearls, ribbons and jewels, which were uniquely placed into textured yet simple hairstyles. The best bit about this beauty trend is that everyone can get in on the act. Whether you’ve got corkscrew curls, long straight locks, or a pretty pixie do, simply adding a jewelled bun pin or velvet headband is all you need!

Engineered Eyes

Eye looks are always a favourite of mine – they allow your creativity to flow, especially around party season – which always calls for lots of grown-up glitter and lashings of liner. For inspiration, look no further than Kenzo, Charlotte Olympia and Pucci, who created looks that included sharp defined lines, which were a throwback to the punk era. Glitter, metallics, saturated hues and all round embellishment were also carried through from SS16 – yet this season it’s much more graphic, with hardly any blending so that the look is far more impactful. My beauty rule for rocking this look is to team jolts of eye colour with a fresh, clean face and a nude glossy lip.

Bold Berry Lips

A bold, wine coloured red lip is the one style statement that epitomises autumnal beauty. There is a shade to suit all skin tones, and it instantly jazzes up your look. The bold berry lips seen on the catwalks ranged from blue black to vivid reds, and textures varied from shiny glosses to blotted, matte lips that had blurred edges. The connecting theme was that they all had a ‘70’s decadence meets Grace Jones’ feel to them. This trend is also perfect for the upcoming festive season, and again is a look that requires minimal effort.

Simple yet stunning, I hope to see you sporting these looks over the coming months!
