In case you hadn’t noticed already, we love harnessing the power of naturally active ingredients whenever we can. We even have our very own Ethnobotanist, James Wong, who’s an authority on botanicals. Trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in London, we asked him for the lowdown on a handful of ingredients that take pride of place in some of your favourite products…

Cocoa Butter

Melts away make up

“Derived from the seeds of West African cocoa trees, the naturally emollient cocoa butter in our hero cleanser helps dissolve dirt, impurities and make up without drying the skin. Rich in antioxidant vitamin E and moisturizing fatty acids, cocoa butter melts on contact with the skin, giving Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser its luxurious, rich texture.”

Aloe Vera plant

The supreme skin soother

“The gel inside aloe vera leaves has been used for centuries for everything from soothing skin to creating hair masks. A key ingredient in our hydrating Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic, our aloe is harvested in the early morning to maximise the amount of ‘juice’ the sword-shaped fronds will yield.”

Borage Seed

Locks in moisture

“The tiny black seeds from the British borage wildflower might not look much, but they’re skincare gold. Due to the changeable climate in which it’s grown, borage is packed with high levels of GLA which helps lock moisture into the skin – a perfect ingredient for our Skin Repair™ Moisturisers.
